One of the most beautiful and famous Surahs of the Holy Quran is Surat Yousuf, because Surat Yousuf bears a lesson for us through the story of the messenger of Allah, Yousuf. Surat Yousuf is our topic in this article, let’s go deeper in its meanings and lesson.
General information about Surat Yiusuf:
Surat Yousuf is surah Makkiya, was revealed in Mekkah. It contains 111 verses, and it is number 12 in the arrangement of the Holy Quran. It is located in the part number 13.
Why did Surat Yousuf was revealed?
Allah -the Almighty- revealed Surat Yousuf to prophet Muhammad -peace and blessings be upon him- as a lesson for him and for all the believers to show that relief always comes after distress, and to ease his sadness and grief after increasing the harm from the disbelievers, and after loosing of support by the death of both, his uncle Abu Talib and his wife khadija Bint Khuwaylid.
And it was revealed also as an answer for those who doubted in Quran or those who asked about stories of previous nations.
The story of Yousuf as mentioned in Quran:
*Yousuf was the 11
th sun for the Messenger of Allah Jacob, and was the son he loved the most, So his brothers felt jealous of him and planned to get rid of him, so they threw him in a well.
{ Kill Yousuf, or throw him in a far land, your father will devote his face to you, and you will be good persons after that, Someone of them said: don’t kill Yousuf and throw him in the hinterlands of the pit to be picked up by some passes-by if you did so}.
*But he was found by a passing convoy, and was sold to “Aziz Misr” and he was raised up in his home.
{ The one who bought him was from Egypt and said to his wife: make his living place be dignified, as he may do us any good or we may take him as a son. And that is how we enabled Yousuf on the earth}.
*After he raised up, because of being handsome and beautiful young man, the wife of the Aziz had fallen in love with him, and she tried to make love to him, but he refused, and her husband “Aziz Misr” saw them and she lied to him saying that Yousuf tried to attack her. But her lie was revealed.
{And when he saw his shirt was torn at the back, he said: surely, it is a plot of you women!, Certainly your plot is great!}
*Then, when women in the city knew about this story, she sent to them and proved for them that he is very handsome and beautiful young man, and she tried to make love to him again, she threaten him with jail but he refused and preferred the jail.
{ this is who you blamed me for, and I tried to seduce him but he refused, and if he don’t do what I ordered him, he will be imprisoned and be of humiliated people}
*In the jail, his talent in interpretation of dreams was manifested, and he succeeded in interpretation of a dream for the king , and he was rewarded by being appointed as Aziz Misr after Aziz Misr was dead.
{ And that is how we enabled Yousuf on the earth, to be wherever he wishes. We give our mercy to whom we wish, and we don’t waste the reward of the benefactors}.
*After tha,t he gave his brothers a great lesson.
{They said: We swear by Allah that Allah preferred you than us and we certainly were sinners}.
*Therefore, in the story of the messenger of Allah, Yousuf, there is a lesson to all Muslims, and a confirmation of prophecy for prophet Muhammad –peace and blessings be upon him- as how did he know stories of previous nations, if it wasn’t a revelation from Allah?
{In their stories, there were lessons for the minded people, it wasn’t a word of a lie, but an assurance of Quran and detailing for everything and a guide and a mercy for the people who believe}.
Lessons learned from Surat Yousuf:
*-To run errands in secret:
{He said: my son, don’t tell your brothers about your dream, so they try to get you, the devil is an avowed enemy to man}
*-Sticking to the right and confronting the temptations:
{He said: oh my God, the jail is preferable to me than what they call me to do}
*-The reality of presence of jealousy among brothers that may lead to harm:
{They said: Yousuf and his brother are more likeable to our father, while we are a league, our father is unfair}
*-Relief comes after distress:
{And if prophets despaired, and thought that they won’t be believed, our victor comes to them}
*-Seeking to take all right reasons to survive:
{Remind me to your Lord}, the Lord here is the king who investigated in the case of Yousuf and from here, he was acquitted.
*-permission to apply for the position if it serves the low of God:
{Make me one the treasures of the earth, I am conserver and aware}.
